The Cool Place to be When it’s Hot Outside! During the summer, and holiday school break, our Adventures in Space Summer & Holiday Camps offer elementary and middle school students a chance to learn how astronauts live and work in space, launch rockets, build robots and explore adventures related to the history of flight at a series of week-long summer camps put on by the Challenger Space Center.
Adventures In Space Astro-Tots, Mercury & Gemini
Week long, half day or full day Adventure. Grade levels will alternate each week, separating children entering Kindergarten and children entering 1st grade. Campers can attend either the morning or afternoon sessions, or combine them into a full day camp experience. All day campers need to bring a sack lunch. Each week long, half day adventure costs $110 per child. Maximum enrollment: 20. Children must be at least 5 years old and completely toilet-trained.

Alien Life Form:
Become a member of a team that will search the universe for possible locations of alien life, or a place human beings may be able to survive. Experiment with seeds, create plant and animal cells, extract DNA and look at the biology and chemistry that makes you alive. After learning to recognize life signs, campers, journey into space on a mission to explore possible locations that may be able to support life.
Third Rock:
Work together to explore many aspects of the Earth from it’s geology to the depths of the oceans. Campers will look at the make-up of the earths crust, play with plate tectonics, including making an erupting volcano and creating mountain ranges millions of years old where they will hunt for fossils. Campers will also design their own biosphere complete with rain, where they may grow plants or insects.
To Be an Astronaut:
Train to become one of the next explorers of space. Campers will participate in team building activities that instill self esteem, self efficacy and leadership skills. Campers will also learn basics of space science with projects including: rockets, heat shields, recovery vehicles, solar ovens, simulated space missions, dome habitats, energy and light experiments and many other space science activities.
To Fly:
Learn the basics of flight and become a member of a flight crew. Campers will experiment with various flying craft and try to design their own versions of airplanes, hovercraft and helicopters. Campers will build wind tunnels and test their creations using Bernoulli’s principle. After completing ground school campers will be able to test their skills with our flight simulators and fly their creations in the Rotunda.
Each full day camp runs for one week only and features a specific theme. Cost $250 per student. Maximum Enrollment: 25. Students need to bring a sack lunch.
| June 9-13 | Young Inventors |
| June 23-27 | Girls in Science |
| July 7-11 | Green Earth Science |
| July 21-25 | Young Inventors |
Young Inventors:
Learn the basics of electricity and circuit design, basic computer programming skills, model building skills, and teamwork skills. Design circuits from a basic switch to a voice analyzer, tell a robot how to maneuver through an obstacle course or find a specific object, and launch a rocket to a thousand feet and other projects and challenges you and your team can explore.
Girls in Science:
This special camp combines the highlights of the two Apollo themed camps into a unique hybrid program that encourages girls to explore their inner engineer or scientist. They will investigate the nature of light, extract DNA, build rockets, design robots, solve team challenges, learn basic circuit design, create aliens to live on distant planets and much more.
Green Earth Science:
Study the effects of a changing earth ecosystem, experiment with chemical reactions, develop a water purifying system, and create your own biospheres where you can grow plants and/or small marine life. Experiment with biochemistry and try to solve a mystery using trace DNA evidence. Along the way you will develop skills in communication, teamwork and problem solving.
To register for any of the above camp sessions, print out the registration form at the top right of the page. Minimum 16 campers (per session) required for optimum team building experience. One form is needed for each camper. Please fax your completed registration form to Tracy at 623-322-2047
